Favourite Books

Are you often looking for books to inspire you?

Maybe it’s to ignite your interest in cooking something creative, something other that the same old boring old meal rotation that you find yourself dishing up week after week, month after month… OR is it that you are looking for some books to BOOST your motivation?… Or do you just want to learn more about the AMAZING piece of machinary that we are?… Look no further, below is a list of books to kick start your bookshelf collection - and make sure they’re not JUST a collection, ACTUALLY READ THEM! Enjoy fellow health seekers ;)

MOTIVATION

  • The Slight Edge is a book that I often encourage my clients to read at the same time they are implementing major changes within their diet or lifestyle.

  • Born To Run is an AWESOME inspirational read for those who love to run (sorry non-runners, I had to put this one here). https://www.chrismcdougall.com/born-to-run/

COOKING INSPO

  • Life-Changing Food - an easy to follow, step by step, wholefood recipe book made with love from a fellow health seeker that has shared her quirky delicious recipes with the world. All recipes are gluten and dairy free with vegetarian and GAPS options. For those of you who are lucky enough to own a Thermomix - you’ll love this too! Every recipe has both conventional AND Thermomix instructions. If you haven’t already heard of Jo Whitton or Fouad Kassab, follow them on social media or just go and buy their recipe book, you will NOT regret it! https://www.quirkycooking.com.au/life-changing-food-2/

  • Dr. Libby’s Real Food Chef AND Real Food Kitchen - These recipes have been put together by Chef Cynthia Louise - again, all made with real wholefoods and very simple to make! Dr. Libby’s Real Food Chef is only available as an e-book however Real Food Kitchen is available as a hard copy.

  • The 5-Minute Salad Lunchbox - A cookbook a little less fancy and with some food groups that I often get my clients to avoid, this one is more for inspiration and ideas in order to come up with your own WHOLEFOOD salads free from wheat and dairy (unless of-course you do not avoid these foods).

LEARN ABOUT YOUR BODY

Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers - A great read about the body’s stress coping mechanisms - Comical, light-hearted, and easy to understand, I highly recommend this one for men (and women)!

Sweet Poison - Why Sugar Makes Us Fat - This book is a particularly great read for all you sugar addicts! (myself included off and on throughout time).

Accidentally Overweight - Another book from one of my favourite authors Dr Libby Weaver - A clinical Nutritional Biochemist with years of clinical experience. Dr Libby has a way of explaining things that will keep you interested and wanting to learn more! It all makes sense when you hear it from Dr Libby :)

Rushing Woman Syndrome - One for the ladies (and men), an in depth explanation of the mechanisms of the body behind the busy hustle and bustle of daily life.

Sweat. Think. Go Faster - A little run down on sports nutrition for all the running nuts (me). While I don’t always agree with EVERYTHING that I read, it is great to have to think outside your ‘normal’ way of thinking at times. I love reading ALL the stuff on ALL of the things and then compiling my own thoughts and opinions (to sometimes implement into my clinical practice if appropriate).
